NEW MINI GOLF
Royal Avenel, designed to be fun with a few challenges for those serious ‘mini golfers’ has each hole named after a famous golf course from around the world.
HOLE#1 Par 3 SAWGRASS
Home to the treacherous Island Green 17th hole, this famous course has hosted the Tournament Players Club competition since 1980. Recent winners include Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Greg Norman.
HOLE#2 Par 3 PEBBLE BEACH
Situated on the rugged Californian coastline this picturesque course has played host to the US Open as recently as 2000. That was the year Tiger Woods tore the course apart to record an astonishing 15 shot win, the biggest in any major championship.
HOLE#3 Par 3 ST. ANDREWS
Scotland boasts to be the home of golf and St Andrews holds a special place in any golfer’s mind. The fifth oldest course in the world, it is also one of the courses that hosts ‘The Open’ where golfing legends like Woods, Nicklaus, Snead, Daly and Faldo to name but a few of the greats, have walked away with the prize.
HOLE#4 Par 2 AUGUSTA
Augusta is perhaps the most celebrated golf course world wide and hosts ‘The Masters’ where the elusive ‘Green Jacket’ and a piece of golfing immortality is at stake each year.
HOLE#5 Par 4 THE TROON
Royal Troon dates back to 1878 and hosts The Open every eight years. A quirky fact about this Scottish course is that it has both the shortest and longest hole of The Open Championship courses.
HOLE#6 Par 4 PINE VALLEY
In 2007 this delightful Philadelphia course was named ‘Best Golf Course in the World’ by Golfers Digest. It is a highly private affair and only opens its doors to the public once a year. Women are also on the outer, only allowed on the fairways after 1pm on a Sunday.
HOLE#7 Par 4 OAKMONT
Oakmont Country Club is in Pennsylvania and has hosted the US Open on eight occasions. It has over 200 bunkers which have contributed to it being rated as one of the toughest courses world wide.
HOLE#8 Par 3 MERION
Merion is set to host the US Open in 2013. Past champions at this Pennsylvania course include the great Ben Hogan, who won here in 1950 to mark his comeback from a head on collision with a bus. The photo of Hogan blasting a 1 iron on the 17th is one of golf’s most famous images.
HOLE#9 Par 4 WINGED FOOT
Merion is set to host the US Open in 2013. Past champions at this Pennsylvania course include the great Ben Hogan, who won here in 1950 to mark his comeback from a head on collision with a bus.
