OUR STORY

Avenel Maze, five minutes from the creek where Ned rescued seven-year-old Richard Shelton, is set in the hills of the magnificent Strathbogie Ranges where the Kelly Gang roamed. Designed to a theme created by the world’s foremost maze designer, Adrian Fisher, Avenel Maze is a new concept in mazes.

It was born in 1996 when Jane and John Starey, a retired diplomat whose postings took them to Saddam Hussein’s Baghdad, planted 1368 Cypress Macrocarpa seedlings on their property, “Boorara”, five minutes from Avenel. Today those seedlings have grown into the center piece of a new tourist destination in the heart of Kelly country.
